Right on the border between Kansas and Nebraska, about 80 miles west of St. Joseph, Missouri, lays a small town named Summerfield, Kansas. It was established by the now defunct Kansas City, Wyandotte and Northwestern Railroad.  The town was named after the chief operations manager of the railroad, Elias Summerfield.  The names of many of the streets carry names of railroad officials.  The town was plotted and lots sold by the railroad.  It was truly a railroad town.  Imagine the blow to the town when the railroad folded in the 1920's.  But this spunky little town refused to die.  The economic times have not always been good for our little community.  The town has survived fires, drought, dust storms, winter and summer storms, and it continues to survive.  It is the spunky little town that refuses to die.
