Schedule of Events for St. Bridget Day

Sunday, May 29, 2011

Our 42nd annual business meeting will begin at 1:30 P.M.  Sunday Mass will be celebrated at 3:00 P.M. with Father Albert Hauser as the celebrant.  Our traditional potluck dinner will follow in the church basement.  Each family is asked to bring one meat dish and one side dish.  Table service, coffee and tea will be furnished by the St. Bridget Historical Society.

Memorial Day, Monday, May 30th at 9:00 A.M. the Axtell American Legionnaires are planning a dedication and twenty-one gun salute to the veterans in the St. Bridget cemetery.  Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend.  We appreciate the exceptionally nice services provided by the Legionnaires.  They do a super job.

ST. BRIDGET CHURCH UPDATE

The church foundation was started almost 110 years ago and the old church is looking pretty good for it’s age.  This year we had one wedding and the two annual Masses, which were well attended.  Father Albert Hauser celebrated the Masses and it was his 50th (Golden Jubilee) anniversary of becoming a priest.  The Historical Society board members presented him with a gift of appreciation for all he does.  The September workday was successful with good workers and needed repairs and maintenance were completed to keep the church in good condition.  We are still working on some larger projects which will require a contractor to do.

ST. BRIDGET WORKDAY 2010

The new roof on the church was completed in 2009 with no problems by Jake Schwartz and his crew and we appreciate the good job they did.  The color compliments the church and we are pleased with the way it looks.  The gutters need to be replaced, which is no small project.  We have contacted several contractors, but so far have had no one that is willing to do the job.  We will keep working on this project.

On our September, 2009 work day a good group of workers scraped and painted the window frames on the north and west side of the church and caulked the glass where needed.  That was a big improvement.

ST. BRIDGET CEMETERY UPDATE

The St. Bridget Historical Society is proud of the condition and looks of the cemetery.  A good portion of the workday was spent putting in new flag pole holders along the road going up to the statue and cross.  Many good workers were there with tools and machinery to dig new holes and pour concrete in them which should be a big improvement to help putting up the flags.  Cleaning and edging the road and trimming hedge was also done.  Thanks to everyone that helped.  Galen Runnebaum’s tractor and Terry Stallbaumer’s cement mixer were appreciated.
