Marysville, founded in 1851, is a beautiful and historic town located on the Big Blue River in northern Kansas. The rolling, glaciated hills of the area create a unique and charming downtown that retains much of its 19th century architecture and old brick streets. Shady residential streets lined with gracious Victorian homes also add to its charm.

Marysville’s population is 3,271 and offers exceptional educational opportunities, progressive industry and kind hearted and hard working Midwestern folks. The Union Pacific Railroad, Landoll Corporation, a USD 364, Community Medical Center, Valley Vet Supply and Tension Envelope are the community’s largest employers. Marysville also offers four banks, a credit union, full service grocery stores, a pharmacy, a veterinary clinic, multiple gas stations, a Wal-Mart Super center, a selection of restaurants, jewelry, shoes, unique gifts, multiple motels and many other businesses to satisfy your shopping and service needs.

Downtown is home to the only original “Home Station #1” along the Pony Express route. There is a large bronze statue of a Pony Express rider in the heart of our city to commemorate the challenging era in our nation’s growth. At least eight historic trails converge here including the historic Oregon and California Trails. The city has built the Historic Trails Park, on the west side of town to celebrate the many historical trails that crossed here. One of the displays is a replica of the old rope-powered ferry that took wagon trains and adventurers across the river west. The City Park in southern Marysville has a sod house, a little red schoolhouse, a steam locomotive, a new theme playground and a 1901 Union Pacific Depot. Marysville is also known as Black Squirrel City as many of our little critter residents are coal black.

Marysville is proud to be a “Main Street” community, one of twenty-two in Kansas and recognized as a certified and accredited program by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. This is a tight knit community of retail and service businesses dedicated to the success of downtown. Marysville is also the county seat of Marshall County. The Kansas Main Street program is designed as a downtown economic development and preservation self-help program. Through it, a positive image is created for the central business district based on the historic and architectural features of the community. Main Street and the Chamber host numerous events and festivals throughout the years.
