Frankfort is home to a small, but historic downtown with restoration work being done on many of the downtown buildings. Limestone was the primary material used to construct many of Frankfort's beautiful, older buildings because of its availability along the bluffs of the Vermillion River. Several stone and frame houses of the early 1900's grace the tree-lined streets. There are several thriving businesses located within the city limits, including a bank, grocery store, auto parts store, gift shop, newspaper, beauty salons, meat locker, auto repair, medical clinic, fitness center, animal clinic, post office, liquor store, gas station, lumber yard, Co-op, funeral home and three restaurants.
